Mattersphere Client Pre-Reqs Empty Mattersphere Client Pre-Reqs

Wed 19 Dec 2018 - 16:39
Original post by Dan Smith: N/A

Hi,

I've been working through the client pre-reqs for Mattersphere 6.3. It seems to suggest I need J# 2.0 second edition. However I run windows 8.1 (which is listed as a supported OS) and there is no J#2.0 package for Windows 8.1, there are only packages up to XP as far as I can tell. Is this really a pre-req? What do we do with windows 7 and windows 8.1 installs?

Thanks

Dan

Mattersphere Client Pre-Reqs Empty Re: Mattersphere Client Pre-Reqs

We have compiled the following pre-reqs list with guidance from TRE:

  1. Install the Visual studio 2010 Visual Studio Tools for Office
  2. Install the Microsoft Office 2010: Primary Interop Assemblies Redistributable
  3. Install Visual J# 2.0 SE (x64)
  4. Install the two Crystal runtimes (32 bit first, then 64 bit)
  5. Install Visual C++ 2008 runtime (probably already installed)
  6. Install the MatterSphere Core
  7. Install MatterSphere Office 2010

I've found that Microsoft don't always specifically state when something is compatible with Windows 8 but you can usually rely on anything that supports Windows 7 onwards and if needs be, use compatibility mode.

For your Windows 7 installs, use the list above. You should be able to find the relevant downloads by typing each item into Google.

Mattersphere Client Pre-Reqs Empty Re: Mattersphere Client Pre-Reqs

Thanks Jamie, The J# 2.0 pre-req seems to be supported only up to windows XP. We have MS running with no J# component deployed (also no crystal reports modules). I'm concerned about deploying such old runtimes unless they are specifically used. Are there certain Mattersphere modules that require these components?

I would guess that it's a legacy requirement - Mattersphere has been around for a long time in various forms. Some of the Mattersphere documentation hasn't been updated in a very long time, so it's hard to find concrete answers. You could always try installing Mattersphere without the runtimes you don't want to install, and test (very thoroughly!)

Thanks, it seems to work without, its the question of support and what is needed.

To the TRE Team, is there an option to review these pre-reqs and understand if they are still required in the code going forward on new versions of Mattersphere?

It would certainly help with support if this could be reviewed and removed.

Dan, can you log a Service Request via the Support channel? Please send me the SR #. I'll ping Support just to make sure it is getting reviewed. Sorry for late response. Just seeing this now.

Hi Jamie, I have had a response from my TR support request. Please see below for J# use cases

It is used to display contents of a ZIP file in document preview if stored as a document record in MatterSphere.

It is also a pre-requisite for the Land Registry module. It comes with the package.

Some Land Registry searches return documents in a zip file. We use the distributable to unzip the zip file and extract the pdf.

As Visual J# has not been updated since 2003 and it is still running fine now then after October we will still have customers installing this.

As we use iManage for document store and we do not use the Land Registry module I don't think there is a requirement for us to deploy this pre-req.
